01
Start the conversation before the signing day
Speak with your conveyancing lawyer about your proposed purchase before committing. Ask which documents they need from you and what you should understand before the appointment.
Keep your questions in one place. A calm conversation before the day can be more useful than trying to remember everything at the signing table.
02
Make the open details visible
Ask your lawyer to walk you through the property details, parties, amounts, obligations and any terms you do not understand. Ask the bank to explain its loan documentation separately. Do not assume that one document answers every question about the purchase.
Bring any written information or promises that you want clarified. Your lawyer can explain how those details relate to the documents for your transaction. This guide is a preparation checklist, not a review of a contract.
03
Know what happens after the appointment
Before leaving, ask who will send your copies, what happens next and whom to contact if you have a question. Keep your copies and follow-up notes together.
A signing photo can be a lovely memory. If you choose to share one, keep identity numbers, signatures and private document pages out of the photograph.
